What is JetBrains AI?

JetBrains AI is the umbrella for AI features across JetBrains IDEs, from completion in the editor to agents that change many files. You enable it from the AI Chat window after installing the AI Assistant plugin.

JetBrains now describes a wider ecosystem: Junie, third-party agents over the Agent Client Protocol, the JetBrains Air agentic environment, and JetBrains Central for organization-level governance.

How the tiers differ

The tiers differ mainly in AI Credits. AI Pro includes credits equal to its price, and AI Ultimate adds a $5 bonus on the individual plan. Organization licenses cost more: $20 for AI Pro and $60 for AI Ultimate.

Limitations

  • 3 monthly credits on AI Free run out after a few agent tasks.
  • When the quota is used up, cloud features pause until renewal unless you buy top-ups.
  • JetBrains AI is limited to supported territories, and AI Free and AI Ultimate aren’t available in Mainland China for now.
  • AI Free and bundled AI Pro can’t be activated through a License Server.

Partly. AI Free gives unlimited code completion, unlimited local models and 3 AI Credits per 30 days for cloud features. It isn't available in Android Studio, IntelliJ IDEA without Ultimate or PyCharm without Pro, where you need AI Pro.

One AI Credit equals $1 USD, charged in your local currency. Cloud-model features and agents consume credits, the quota resets every 30 days from activation, unused credits don't roll over, and top-up credits stay valid for 12 months.

All Products Pack and dotUltimate subscribers, Developer Recognition Program members, JetBrains Content Creators and DataSpell users get AI Pro included. It isn't included in complimentary All Products Pack licenses for students, teachers, classrooms or open-source projects.

Yes. Junie uses the same AI Credits, and JetBrains recommends AI Ultimate for regular Junie use. Junie now also offers Junie Lite, a free always-on model in every JetBrains account with no trial or card, and with your own API key you pay provider rates with zero markup.

Only if you allow it. Detailed data sharing is opt-in on paid licenses but enabled by default on non-commercial licenses, where you can opt out. Shared data trains JetBrains models like Mellum and isn't passed to third parties.
