Sudowrite
Sudowrite is an AI writing app for fiction from Sudowrite, the company Amit Gupta and James Yu founded in 2020. It helps authors brainstorm, outline, draft, rewrite and get feedback on manuscripts using Muse, its fiction-trained model, alongside Claude, GPT and other models. Novelists, screenwriters and hobby writers use it for long projects.
Quick facts
Best for
- Novelists drafting full manuscripts
- Genre and fan-fiction writers
- Hobbyists and student writers
Key features
Write continues your scene to the end of a sentence in your style, while Rewrite rephrases a passage using saved custom instructions.
Story Bible stores characters, outline and worldbuilding, which Draft uses to write chapter prose after showing a credit estimate.
Muse is Sudowrite's model trained for fiction, and Ballad 1.1 powers Excellent prose mode; Claude, GPT and Kimi models are also offered.
Leaves beta-reader style comments on your chapters, and you can tag @Sudowrite in replies to ask for help.
Chat reads your manuscript, inserts edits when you allow it, and can search the web for genre conventions or trope data.
Describe the writing tool you need and Sudowrite builds a reusable plugin that you can refine in the plugin editor.
Mobile apps keep projects in sync and include Smart Dictation for speaking scenes into a project.
Use cases
- Turn a chapter outline and Story Bible into a rough draft, then revise it in your own voice.
- Ask Chat for a manuscript-wide critique of pacing and character arcs before sending pages to beta readers.
- Brainstorm plot twists, character names and settings when a series stalls mid-book.
- Dictate scene ideas on your phone during a commute and expand them later on a laptop.

What is Sudowrite?
Sudowrite is an editor built for long-form fiction rather than emails or marketing copy. Each project holds your manuscript, a Story Bible and a history of generated cards, so you can compare AI suggestions side by side before inserting any of them.
Plans and credits
All three plans include the same toolkit, Muse included, and differ mainly in monthly credits:
- Hobby & Student: 225,000 credits, pitched at people writing for fun or for school.
- Professional: the most popular tier, aimed at novels and screenplays.
- Max: 2,000,000 credits that roll over for 12 months.
Limitations
Credit use is hard to predict because each model burns credits at a different rate; in August 2026 Sudowrite cut GPT-5.6 Luna’s credit use by 70%, for example. Features other than Write may answer in English when you write in another language. Muse is marketed as having no content filters, which suits dark themes but not every setting. The app is built for storytelling, so business and academic writers are better served elsewhere.
