What is Manus?

Manus is an autonomous agent: you describe an outcome, and it plans the steps, runs them in a cloud sandbox and returns a report, website, deck or file. It runs on the web, in desktop and mobile apps, and inside your own browser through Browser Operator.

The Meta deal and its reversal

Meta acquired Manus on December 29, 2025. The takeover was later undone; news outlets including CNBC and Bloomberg reported that Chinese regulators had blocked it. Manus announced its return to independent operations on August 11, 2026 and confirmed it on its blog on September 1.

The separation had real consequences for some users. Data generated after the acquisition date was deleted from affected accounts, and Manus offered backups, a restoration portal, refunds and welcome-back discounts depending on the account type.

Limitations

  • Credit use depends on the tokens, virtual machines and APIs a task needs, so a long job can cost far more than a quick answer.
  • The Free plan runs only 1 task at a time.
  • Browser Operator is recommended for Chrome and Edge only.
  • The 2026 data deletion is worth weighing if you plan to keep long-running projects on the platform.

Manus FAQ

No. Meta acquired Manus on December 29, 2025, but Manus told users on August 11, 2026 that it would return to independent operations and confirmed on September 1, 2026 that its founding team leads the company again.

For some affected accounts, data created between December 29, 2025 and August 23, 2026 was deleted on August 23–24, 2026 (Singapore time) to meet regulatory requirements. Users could back it up first, and restoration opened on August 25.

Yes, with limits. The Free plan refreshes 300 credits every day and runs 1 task at a time. Paid plans start at $20/month with 4,000 monthly credits on top of the same 300 daily credits.

Credits pay for model tokens, cloud virtual machines and third-party APIs used while a task runs. Storing or deploying finished outputs costs nothing, and add-on credits never expire, while monthly credits refresh on your billing date.

Yes. Besides the web app, Manus offers apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, plus the Browser Operator extension for running tasks inside your own browser.
