Cursor's New Plans Explained (2026): X Subscription, Plus $8 vs Premium $30

On October 12, 2026, Cursor's plans moved into The X Subscription, one plan that also covers Grok and X Premium. New buyers pick Free, Plus ($8/month), Premium ($30), Super ($100) or Ultra ($200). Cursor Pro at $20 is now a legacy plan new subscribers can't buy, and Claude or GPT usage costs extra at API prices.

Key takeaways
  • Since October 12, 2026, new Cursor customers start on The X Subscription: Free, Plus at $8/month, Premium at $30, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200, with Teams from $30 per user.
  • Cursor Pro at $20/month, Pro+ at $60, the old Ultra, India's ₹649 Start plan and legacy Teams seats are now legacy plans that existing subscribers keep but new subscribers can't buy.
  • On The X Subscription, Claude, GPT and other third-party models in Cursor aren't included: Premium and above bill them at API list prices from prepaid credit, and Plus runs Grok models only.
  • Cursor says each X Subscription plan includes at least twice the Grok-model coding usage of the comparable old plan, but the pool resets weekly and is shared with Grok and Grok Bot.
  • Switching to The X Subscription is optional and permanent, legacy plans can't be repurchased once they end, and Cursor says it will give advance notice before migrating anyone.

On October 12, 2026, Cursor folded its plans into The X Subscription, one plan that also covers Grok, Grok Bot and X Premium. As of October 22, 2026, new customers choose Free, Plus ($8/month), Premium ($30), Super ($100) or Ultra ($200), while Cursor Pro at $20/month is a legacy plan that only existing subscribers keep. The change hits hardest if you use Claude or GPT in Cursor: new plans don’t include them.

What is Cursor’s X Subscription?

The X Subscription is a single plan that bundles Cursor with Grok, Grok Bot and X Premium, with one weekly usage pool shared between Cursor and Grok. Cursor announced it in a staff post on its forum on October 12, 2026.

The bundle includes:

  • Grok: chat, voice, and image and video generation.
  • Grok Bot: AI teammates that carry out tasks.
  • Cursor: local and cloud coding agents.
  • X: a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads.

The shared pool covers Grok models wherever you use them: the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X or Cursor. It refreshes weekly instead of monthly. Cursor says each X Subscription plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with Grok models as the comparable old Cursor plan. Cursor’s own models are Grok 4.7, Grok 4.6, Grok 4.5 and Composer 2.5, and staff confirmed Composer stays on every plan. Cursor’s pricing page says subscriptions are sold only through X Subscription Corp.

How much does Cursor cost now?

As of October 22, 2026, Cursor’s pricing page lists Free at $0, Plus at $8/month, Premium at $30, Super at $100, Ultra at $200 and Teams from $30 per user a month.

Plan Monthly price Included usage Cursor features Claude, GPT and other third-party models
Free $0 Limited Agent with limited requests Not available
Plus $8 Basic Agent and unlimited Tab, Grok models only Not available
Premium $30 4x Plus Adds cloud agents, automations, Bugbot and Origin code hosting At API list price, billed separately
Super $100 15x Plus Adds priority model access at peak times At API list price, billed separately
Ultra $200 50x Plus Adds earliest access to products and models At API list price, billed separately
Teams From $30/user 4–50x Plus, by seat Adds SSO, admin controls and usage analytics At API list price, billed separately
Enterprise Custom Pooled Adds SCIM, audit logs and invoice billing At API list price, billed separately

Prices exclude taxes, and checkout shows your local price. Annual billing costs $80 a year for Plus, $300 for Premium, $1,000 for Super and $2,000 for Ultra, according to xAI’s pricing docs. Team seats cost the same as individual plans ($30, $100 or $200 per user), team plans are billed monthly, and Plus isn’t offered to teams.

By the pricing page’s multiples, bigger plans include more usage per dollar. Ultra gives 50x Plus’s usage for 25x the price, while Premium gives 4x for 3.75x the price.

Is Cursor Pro $20 still available?

No, not for new subscribers. On October 20, 2026, a Cursor staff member wrote that “standalone Cursor Pro at $20/month is a legacy plan now,” which is why its Upgrade button leads to The X Subscription. Existing Pro subscribers keep their price and features unless they switch.

Cursor’s Legacy Cursor plans page maps every old plan to its closest new tier:

Legacy Cursor plan Price Comparable X Subscription plan
Hobby Free Free
Start (India only) ₹649/month, tax inclusive Plus ($8/month)
Pro $20/month Premium ($30/month)
Pro+ $60/month Super ($100/month)
Ultra $200/month Ultra ($200/month)
Teams Standard $40/user/month Teams, Premium seat ($30/user/month)
Teams Premium $120/user/month Teams, Super seat ($100/user/month)

Cursor’s docs say “comparable” means the closest tier, not an identical one. Staff said Pro+ has no one-to-one replacement. The bigger change is how usage works:

Legacy Cursor plans The X Subscription
Included usage Two monthly pools: Cursor Models and Other Models One weekly pool for Cursor models, shared with Grok
Reset Monthly, with your billing cycle Weekly
Third-party models Included through Other Models on Pro, Pro+, Ultra and Teams Not included; API list price from prepaid credit on Premium and above
Extra usage On-demand, billed monthly in arrears Prepaid top-ups, with optional Auto Top-up
Billing dashboard cursor.com/dashboard/billing grok.com/dashboard/billing

What happens to Claude and GPT models in Cursor?

On The X Subscription, Claude, GPT and other third-party models cost extra: Premium and above bill them at API list prices from prepaid credit, from the first request.

  • No included allowance. Staff confirmed Premium, Super and Ultra, individual or Teams, include no third-party allowance.
  • Plus is Grok-only. Plus can’t run third-party models, and bring-your-own-key is limited to Premium and above.
  • No surprise charges. With no credit and Auto Top-up off, a third-party model won’t run; Cursor prompts you to buy credits instead.
  • A hard off switch. Staff say a monthly limit of $0 refuses anything that would use credits, including usage past your weekly allowance.
  • Legacy plans are unchanged. Pro, Pro+, Ultra and Teams keep their Other Models pool, drawn down at each model’s API price, until you switch.

That’s the real price change for heavy Claude users: the $20 Pro plan included an Other Models allowance, and the $30 Premium plan includes none.

Cursor Plus vs Premium: which plan do you need?

Pick Plus at $8/month if Grok models in Cursor’s Agent are enough. Pick Premium at $30/month for cloud agents, Bugbot reviews, Grok Bot, or Claude and GPT.

Plus includes Cursor’s Agent, unlimited Tab completions, Grok chat, voice, Imagine and Build, Grok API access (billed separately) and a checkmark on X. It leaves out cloud agents, automations, Bugbot, Origin, Grok Bot, video generation and third-party models. Cursor recommends Plus for social creators with light AI use and Premium for new AI users.

The cheapest ways to use Cursor as of October 22, 2026:

  • Free ($0): limited agent and chat requests.
  • Plus ($8/month): the cheapest paid plan, priced in rupees at checkout in India.
  • A legacy plan you already have: Pro at $20 still includes third-party models. Don’t let it lapse, because it can’t be repurchased.
  • Premium with a $0 credit limit: you pay $30 and nothing more, because anything that would use credits is refused.

Cursor’s free year of Pro for students ended on June 25, 2026, when the program closed to new sign-ups.

Should you switch or stay on a legacy plan?

Stay on a legacy Cursor plan if you rely on Claude, GPT or Gemini. Switch if you mostly code with Grok models or already pay for SuperGrok or X Premium.

Stay if:

  • Most of your usage is third-party models, which your legacy allowance still covers.
  • You prefer a monthly pool to a weekly one.
  • You pay with Alipay. Staff say The X Subscription doesn’t support it yet.
  • You’re on India’s Start plan. You can’t buy it back.

Switch if:

  • You code mainly with Grok or Composer, where Cursor promises at least twice the usage.
  • You also pay for SuperGrok or X Premium. Those are cancelled at checkout with a prorated refund, leaving one bill.
  • You want Grok Bot or video generation.

Switching is permanent, and Support can’t undo it. Canceling a legacy plan instead refunds nothing for the current period. Legacy subscribers can still move between legacy tiers, such as Pro to Ultra, unless they pay through the Apple App Store. Cursor said on October 20 there’s no timeline for migrating existing plans; an October 13 staff reply said non-switchers will eventually be migrated with advance notice.

What are Cursor users confused about?

The forum announcement had more than 12,000 views and 255 posts by October 22, 2026. User reports, with Cursor’s replies:

  • The $20 button. A Free user saw “Pro $20/mo — Upgrade” but landed on The X Subscription. Staff said the label is out of date.
  • India’s Start plan. A user’s “Upgrade to Start” click opened the X Subscription checkout. Staff said Start is now legacy and pointed to Plus.
  • Higher checkout prices. A Pro+ subscriber saw Super at $120, not $100. Staff said the switch page can include local taxes.
  • Weekly limits running out. Switchers reported fast-draining pools. On October 20, Cursor said it is investigating; some of the drain appears to come from features like Grok Imagine.
  • Legacy metering. On October 22, a legacy Ultra subscriber posted math suggesting the Other Models allowance drains faster than API prices imply; staff merged it into an existing usage-meter bug thread.

What are the alternatives with Claude or GPT included?

If you want Claude or GPT inside a flat price, these tools bundle it, per PromoClock’s data as of October 2026:

  • Claude Code comes with Claude Pro at $20/month ($17/month billed yearly) and Max at $100 or $200/month. See Claude Pro vs Max.
  • GitHub Copilot Pro costs $10/month with $15 in monthly AI Credits, spendable on models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and xAI.
  • Windsurf, now called Devin Desktop, charges $20/month for Pro with a daily and weekly token quota.
  • Codex is included in ChatGPT Go at $8/month and Plus at $20/month.

Bottom line

Current Cursor Pro, Pro+ or Ultra subscribers who use Claude or GPT should stay put: the legacy plan includes third-party models, and Premium doesn’t. Grok-first coders, and anyone already paying for SuperGrok or X Premium, get more for the money by switching. New buyers on a budget should start with Free, then Plus at $8/month. Pick Premium at $30 only if you need cloud agents, Bugbot or third-party models, and set a credit limit on day one.

How to switch from a legacy Cursor plan to The X Subscription

Step by step

1
Compare before you switch

Read Cursor's Legacy Cursor plans page first. Switching is permanent, Support can't undo it, and it ends your included third-party model allowance.

2
Open the unify page

Sign in to Cursor in a web browser, go to cursor.com/unify and click Get started. The mobile apps send you to the web to switch.

3
Link your accounts

Select the Grok, X or extra Cursor accounts to add and click Start linking accounts, or Skip if you have none. Sign in to each account and confirm it.

4
Pick a plan and check out

Choose an X Subscription plan; paid Cursor accounts are offered Premium and above. Your old Cursor and Grok plans are cancelled with a prorated refund.

5
Set up credit for Claude or GPT

If you use third-party models, add prepaid credit or turn on Auto Top-up after checkout, and set a monthly limit at grok.com/dashboard.

6
Cancel App Store billing yourself

If you paid for Cursor through the Apple App Store, cancel it in iPhone or iPad Settings, because Cursor can't cancel or refund it.

Frequently asked questions

Not for new subscribers. A Cursor staff member wrote on October 20, 2026 that standalone Cursor Pro at $20/month is a legacy plan, so the Upgrade button now leads to The X Subscription. Existing Pro subscribers keep the same price and features unless they switch. The closest new plan is Premium at $30/month, and Plus at $8/month is the cheapest paid option.

Plus costs $8/month and runs Grok models only, with unlimited Tab completions but no cloud agents, Bugbot reviews, third-party models or bring-your-own-key. Premium costs $30/month and includes 4x Plus's usage, cloud agents and automations, Bugbot, Origin code hosting, Grok Bot and video generation, and it lets you use Claude or GPT in Cursor at API list prices.

Yes, on Premium, Super, Ultra and Teams, but not inside the plan price. Cursor bills third-party models at API list prices from prepaid credit, starting with the first request, and a monthly limit of $0 blocks credit use entirely. Plus allows Grok models only. Legacy Pro, Pro+, Ultra and Teams plans still include an Other Models allowance for as long as you keep them.

Yes for individual plans. xAI's pricing docs list Plus at $80/year, Premium at $300/year, Super at $1,000/year and Ultra at $2,000/year, against $96, $360, $1,200 and $2,400 paid monthly. Team plans are billed monthly. Listed prices exclude taxes, which is why one user saw Super at $120 instead of $100 on the switch page.

Not now. On October 20, 2026, Cursor said switching is opt-in for existing subscribers, legacy plans keep working with their third-party model usage, and there's no timeline for migrating them. An earlier staff reply said non-switchers will eventually be migrated with advance notice. If your legacy plan ends or lapses, you can't buy it again.

Plus. Cursor's docs list Start (₹649/month, tax inclusive) as a legacy plan whose closest X Subscription tier is Plus at $8/month, and a staff member said Plus is priced in rupees at checkout. Current Start subscribers keep their plan. The two aren't identical: Start includes Cloud Agents, while Plus doesn't.
