What is Notion?

Notion combines documents, wikis and databases in one workspace, so a meeting note, a task list and a published web page can link to each other. It runs in the browser and as apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, with a Chrome web clipper; there is no Linux desktop app.

What stands out

  • Agents, not just autocomplete. Notion Agent, Custom Agents and the Workers developer beta let AI carry out recurring work inside the workspace.
  • Model control for admins. Since September 9, 2026, Business and Enterprise owners can choose which AI models their agents may use.
  • Free extras. Notion Calendar, basic forms and basic published sites are part of the Free plan.

Limitations

Meaningful AI use requires Business, which costs twice as much per member as Plus. Custom Agents add credit spending on top, and Workers start consuming credits from October 15. Free workspaces with 2 or more members hit a block limit, uploads are capped at 5 MB per file, and only Enterprise gets zero data retention with AI providers.

Yes. The Free plan gives individuals unlimited pages and blocks, 7 days of page history, uploads up to 5 MB per file and up to 10 guests. Notion AI is only available as a limited trial there.

Only as a trial. Free and Plus get a limited number of complimentary AI responses; Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search start with Business at $24 per member/month, or $20 billed yearly.

Custom Agents are free to try, then run on Notion credits priced at $10 per 1,000. Credits are sold only to Business and Enterprise workspaces, and each run uses more or fewer credits depending on task complexity.

On Free, Plus and Business, Notion's LLM providers retain AI data for 30 days. Enterprise workspaces get zero data retention, and Notion says feedback you give on AI answers is not used to train Notion AI.
