Granola

Granola is an AI notepad from Granola, Inc. that transcribes meetings from your computer's audio and combines the transcript with your own rough notes into a clean summary. No bot joins the call, and audio is not saved. It runs on macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, and suits people in back-to-back meetings.

Key features

Bot-free transcription

Listens through your microphone and system audio, so it works with Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and any app that plays sound.

Notes enhanced by AI

Type sparse notes during the call and Granola expands them with details from the transcript once the meeting ends.

Chat across meetings

Ask questions within one meeting or across many, and run Recipes, prompts that combine with your notes and can be shared with colleagues.

Pre-meeting Briefs

Syncs with your calendar and prepares a Brief before external meetings covering attendees, past discussions and open points.

Shared folders and templates

Organize notes in folders shared with teammates and apply customized templates to shape how summaries are written.

Integrations, API and MCP

Business connects Attio, Notion, Slack, HubSpot, Affinity and Zapier and adds API access and MCP integration for other apps.

Use cases

  • Take quick shorthand during an investor call and get a structured summary with next steps afterwards.
  • Review a Brief on a client's last three conversations before joining a renewal meeting.
  • Capture an in-person meeting on your iPhone or Android phone and share the notes with your team.

What is Granola?

Granola works like a notepad that listens. You open it when a meeting starts, jot down whatever matters to you, and after the call it merges those notes with the transcript into a tidy document. Nothing appears in the participant list, and an optional feature can send participants an automated consent message when a meeting starts.

What stands out

  • The notes read like yours, because your own jottings steer what the AI keeps.
  • Chat and Recipes turn a pile of meetings into answers, such as the open action items across a week.
  • New companion apps extend it beyond the desktop, including mobile phone calls and an Apple Watch app.

Limitations

  • Granola cannot transcribe pre-recorded files, and it can’t isolate audio from a single app.
  • Without a bot, speaker names are missing on many platforms.
  • Consent is your responsibility: Granola recommends asking permission, and org-wide notification that the app is in use is an Enterprise control.
  • Basic hides notes older than 30 days, and monthly billing is the only option below Enterprise.

Granola FAQ

Yes. The Basic plan is free and includes AI meeting notes, chat within and across meetings, shared folders and templates. Notes older than 30 days are hidden in the app until you upgrade, and integrations are limited to Slack.

No. Granola sends microphone and system audio to its transcription provider in real time and does not record or save audio or video. Only the transcript and your notes are kept, and you can delete them.

Yes. Granola has desktop apps for macOS and Windows and mobile apps for iPhone and Android. The web version only lets you view and edit existing notes, so transcription needs one of the apps.

Only in some cases. Speaker identification works for Google Meet through a browser extension and for Zoom on macOS, and the mobile app can separate voices in person. Otherwise transcripts label lines as Me and Them.

Not for Basic or Business. Granola's help center says Business is billed monthly at $14 per user and annual billing is available on Enterprise contracts only.
