What is Midjourney?

Midjourney is a subscription-only generator for images and short videos. You write prompts on midjourney.com or send them to the Midjourney Bot in Discord, and control results with parameters such as –v for version or –hd for 2K output.

The V8 series arrived in 2026: V8.0 as an alpha on March 17, V8.1 on April 14 and V8.2 as the default on July 24. V8.1 renders standard jobs about 4–5 times faster than earlier versions.

No trial is available on midjourney.com or in Discord. A limited trial exists only in the separate niji·journey app for iOS and Android, which focuses on anime and illustrative styles.

Fast mode uses your monthly GPU hours, from 3.3 hours on Basic to 60 on Mega. Relax mode queues jobs without using hours and is unlimited for images on Standard and up, and for SD video on Pro and Mega.

Yes. Subscribers on every plan can use their images and videos under Midjourney's general commercial terms, but companies with more than $1,000,000 USD in yearly gross revenue must subscribe to Pro or Mega.

Not by default. Keeping images and videos private requires Stealth Mode, which is only included in the Pro plan at $60/month and the Mega plan at $120/month.

V8.2 has been the default model since July 24, 2026. It focuses on aesthetics, image quality and personalization, and its Edit Model replaces Omni Reference, Character Reference and the Retexture tool.
